Hi, I’m Ros Keeble. I am a freelance Makaton Regional Tutor living in Hampshire UK. I offer Makaton Training Workshops to a wide variety of individuals and organisations within Hampshire. Makaton is a unique Language Programme developed by speech and language therapist Margaret Walker MBE as a form of communication through the combined use of speech with signs and symbols. The Makaton Language Programme offers a structured approach for the teaching of communication, language and literacy skills for use with adults and children who have a broad range of communication needs. The Makaton Core Vocabulary is designed to enable carers and users to blend signs/symbols into sentences and phrases at a very functional level. Gesturing is observed in all developing infants as a pre-lingual skill, so by teaching signing (gestures with a particular meaning) you are making the most of the normal pattern of language development.
